A Word From Our Associate...

For my column this week, I wanted to pass on a letter from Archbishop Harry Flynn.
     Fr. Michael
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
A year ago on October 31, representatives of the Catholic Church and the Lutheran World Federation confirmed and signed the
Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification in Augsburg, Germany.  By means of this declaration, we Lutherans and Catholics jointly confess:  "By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renew our hearts while equipping and calling us to good works" (par. 15).
On this anniversary of that event, and in recognition of the Prayer service of Thanksgiving to God which was held at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis a week later, we the Lutheran bishops and Catholic archbishop, affirm this ecumenical event of historic significance.
We call upon the members of our respective communities to join us for a discussion and celebration on January 21, during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.  We also ask you to join us in prayer for growth in unity, and witness to our common faith.

Council of Catholic Women...

CCW

Archbishop Harry Flynn has proclaimed October 29 as Council of Catholic Women Sunday.  All of us in CCW hope you will keep our organization in your prayers as we continue our devotion to Our Lady and our service to St. John's community.

THANK YOU!
Thank you to all who participated in the Living Rosary.  A special thank you to Fr. Michael and Jay Hunstiger and all who helped us honor Mary with such a beautiful ceremony.
