Music Notes… During Advent we will be learning a new hymn, Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates, from the red Worship Hymnal #363. The text is based on Psalm 24 and the tune is about 200 years old, and sounds very much like something Handel (composer of Messiah) would have written, though the composer is unknown. We hope to use this hymn again next fall when we process through the new "gates" at the back of church, as we inaugurate and bless our new parish center.
CHRISTMAS LITURGIES-- This year we welcome Ralph Schwartz and the Northshore Brass Quintet and Tympani for our 5:00, 7:00 and 11:00 pm liturgies. All Masses will be preceded by 30 minutes of festive prelude music. We are most fortunate to have with us this prestigious group of Twin City musicians. Christmas Day Masses will feature parishioner Harry Reiner on the trumpet. The 10:00 a.m. will feature St. John's Handbell Choir.
Liturgy News… THANK YOU! Thanks, Mike Mezzenga--for standing our Advent Birch Trees in the church. If anyone would like to help Mike stand our Christmas trees, Mike will be working on Friday, December 22nd at 6:30 pm.
ALLERGIES ANYONE? Just a reminder, that our Incense Free Masses on the weekends only are on Saturdays at 4:30 and Sundays at 6:15 pm.
GREENING OF SAINT JOHN'S CHURCH Everyone is invited to help GREEN our church interior this Friday evening, Dec. 22nd beginning at 6:30 pm. The labor intensive work will be done on this day, while the finishing touches won't take place until December 24th after the 9:30 final Mass of Advent. Supper will follow for all workers on the 22nd. Please join us as we prepare our House of Worship for the Twelve Days of Christmas!
Social Justice… FOOD SHELF HELP WANTED We are in need of a couple of volunteers to help out with our food shelf on Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings from 10:00--noon. We have a particular need for Mondays. It involves receiving calls requesting food and assisting clients who come to pick up food. NO HEAVY LIFTING. If you can give us a morning a week or just one or two a month it would be great! You can make Deacon Joe Kenney's day by calling 651-633-8333.
