A Word From Our Associate& Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy
What a wonderful season of the year, Thanksgiving through Advent and Christmas. It is a time for celebrations and gift giving. Even the advertisements on T.V. resound with good feelings: I think of for example, the Budweiser or Coca Cola Christmas adds, with their little jingles. But there are many people for whom these seasons are very painful: the lonely, the widowed and orphaned, and those who are suffering or near death. In our joy at this time of year, we sing to God of love and life, which is so right. Yet we must also see and pray for our neighbor in distress. Besides the usual family gift giving, I'd like to suggest another way of giving gifts this season, and that would be to choose one spiritual and corporal work of mercy from the list below, and offer it to someone as a gift.
The Spiritual Works of
Mercy : 1) to instruct the ignorant 2) to counsel the doubtful 3) to admonish sinners 4) to bear wrongs patiently 5) to forgive offenses willingly 6) to comfort the afflicted 7) to pray for the living and the dead
The Corporal Works of Mercy: 1) to feed the hungry 2) to give drink to the thirsty 3) to clothe the naked 4) to shelter the homeless 5) to visit the sick 6) to ransom the captive 7) to bury the dead
"He who has two coats, let him share with him who has none; and he who has food must do likewise" (Luke 3:11). "But give for alms those things which are within, and behold, everything is clean for you" (Luke 11:41). "If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, be warmed and filled,' without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit?" (James 2:15-16) (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2447). Fr. Michael

Music Notes& As we prepare for the coming of the Christ Child, what touches us more deeply than music? Music is such a part of our memory and experience of the upcoming season. We invite you to enrich through song the spirituality and joy of your Advent/Christmas experience. Join us in the choir for the next month. We rehearse every Wednesday from 7:15-9:15 p.m. We celebrate Advent every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Mass, with our preparations culminating at the Christmas Eve 11:00 p.m. Mass. Along with a brass choir we will present music 30 minutes prior as well. Don't miss being a part of the musical meaning of the season!
