From the Pastor...
Do you ever find yourself asking the question, "Where does all the time go?"  This week flew by, so I had to pull out some things from the file.
Some Irish proverbs.  Which one is your favorite?
*  A friend's eye is the best mirror.
*  Don't see all you see, don't hear all you hear.
*  The church is near, but the road is icy;
     the tavern is far, but I'll walk very carefully.
*  Your feet will bring you where your heart is.
*  It's as foolish to let a fool kiss you as it is to let a kiss fool you.
*  You've got to do your own growing, no matter how tall your grandfather was.
*  A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures.
*  Be nice to them on the way up.  You might meet them on the way down.
*  If a man fools me once, shame on him.  If he fools me twice, shame on me.

Children are unfamiliar with proverbs.  A first grade teacher brought some well known proverbs to school one day.  She gave each child the first half of the proverb and had them fill in the second half.  They came up with some rather unique proverbs of their own:
*  Better safe than... punch a fifth grader.
*  Strike while the ... bug is alive.
*  It's always darkest before... daylight savings time.
*  You can lead a horse to water, but ... how?
*  Don't bite the hand that ... looks dirty.
*  You can't teach an old dog new... math.
*  The pen is mightier than the... pigs.
*  An idle mind is... the best way to relax.
*  Where there's smoke there's ... pollution.
*  Children should be seen and not... spanked or grounded.
*  Cry and... you have to blow your nose.
*  Two's company, three's... the musketeers.
*  When the blind lead the blind... get out of the way.
*  A penny saved is... not much.

Some favorite quotes:
*  Elizabeth Barrett Browning:  "What is the secret of your life?  Tell me, that I may make my life beautiful too."
      Charles Kingsley:  "I had a friend."
*  Walk as if you are kissing the earth with your feet. -- Thich Nhat Hahn
*  Who owns a garden... is very close to God. -- K Edelman
*  Would you be any different if Jesus Christ did not exist? -- Anthony de Mello, SJ
*  God has a way of opening doors I don't want to go through. -- Miriam Pollard, OCSO
*  One learns through suffering and beauty.  One alone won't do.  -- Anne Morrow Lindbergh
*  No one can be grateful and unhappy.  -- Anthony de Mello, SJ
*  I have learned more from my dog than all the good books I have read. -- Gerry Spencer
*  Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent. -- Eleanor Roosevelt
*  Where there is sorrow there is holy ground. -- Oscar Wilde

*  Time spent laughing is time spent with the gods.  -- Japanese proverb

And so it goes!
