YOUTH MINISTRY SNAPSHOT Katie. com Katie Tarbox was only 14
when she began an online friendship with a "23 year old named Mark"
who she met in an American Online chat room. Soon
the Connecticut girl ended up alone in a Texas hotel room with "Mark" only to discover that he was actually a 41-year-old pedophile named Frank. Katie, now 18, wrote a book about her experience, Katie.com, which discusses the dangers of online pedophilia and describes the tormented psyche of a girl who seemed to have it all. Time considers Tarbox's book worth the read. About the dangers of online relationships, Katie now says, "Girls who have a goal, real connections to family and friends, and a sense that a world of opportunity awaits them seem to be inoculated against danger." Sowers of Justice&
AFFORDABLE HOUSING Several churches in the Mounds View and New Brighton area are collaborating to raise awareness of the housing crisis both in this area as well as statewide. One specific step we are undertaking is to hold a public forum to provide additional information on the scope of the problem and to invite legislative candidates to come and present their viewpoints on how to address this problem. The candidates meeting will be held on September 28. A meeting will be held at St. John the Baptist on Thursday, August 17 for the purpose of planning the September meeting. Anyone wishing to help in the planning and organizing of the September meeting is welcome to attend the August meeting. It will be held at St. John's Parish Center Thursday, August 17 from 7:00--9:00 p.m. For further information please call Deacon Joe Kenney (651) 633-8333.
NOTICE: TO ALL PARISH GROUPS Anyone wishing to have tables in church or selling items after Mass needs to submit in writing the date & times you desire so that we can calendar all events. This applies to all, even if you have always had the space reserved in the past. Please list a first & second preference. We will be allowing only one group at a time, due to constraints with the narthex entrance being closed. Groups will received preference on a first come basis. Please leave your requests for Jay Hunstiger at the Parish office. Thank you for your cooperation.
