Pastoral Ministry&
CANCER SUPPORT
Wednesday, April 11 the Cancer Spirituality Support Group meets from 2:00--3:30 p.m. in the parish office--all are welcome to join us.

SPRING GATHERING
On April 18 at 7:00 p.m. Brenda Elsagher, motivational and funny speaker will "bring us joy"!  All the volunteers who do pastoral ministry (i.e. Befrienders, nursing home, cancer support, open arms) are invited to gather for pizza and salad supper--look for your invitations in the mail--don't miss it!

THANK YOU
Thanks to all the Befrienders and Nursing Home Ministers who helped with the soup supper on March 30--we had such a good time& many hands made light work!  We collected $175 to send to St. Mary's Health Clinics.  Free medical help is offered at several locations around the city.  The clinics are primarily funded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

Little Lights Preschool&

"Top Ten Signs of a Great Preschool"

(According to the National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
#5 Children learn numbers and the alphabet in the context of their everyday experiences.  The natural world of plants and animals and meaningful activities like cooking, taking attendance, or serving snacks provide the basis for learning activities.
At St. John's Little Lights Preschool...
We will embrace all of these learning opportunities.  Numbers and the alphabet will be part of our daily curriculum.  Also, being a Christian-based center, we will be using everyday opportunities to thank God for His wonderful creation, for friends, for family, for food... etc.
#6  Children work on projects and have long periods of time (at least one hour) to play and explore.  Worksheets are used little if at all.
At St. John's Little Lights Preschool...
Our center time will allow the children to play and explore and our curriculum is strictly hands-on, not based on sitting and working on worksheets.  For instance, when learning a letter of the alphabet, they will be encouraged to draw it in the sand, make a collage with different materials (for the letter "b" they might decorate a bus using dried beans or beads), using their bodies to make the letter (an "I" stands straight and tall, and "O" curls up in a ball.)
St. John's new preschool program is striving for  excellence and expected to open this coming October.  Many have already registered, but we still have openings.  Please call Mary Walus at 651-633-8333  for info./registration materials or on the web at www.stjohnnb.com/LittleLightsPreschool
