Perpetual Adoration
By Danielle Olson
My name is Danielle Olson, I'll be helping organize Perpetual Adoration for the people of St. John the Baptist Church. I'm really excited to be a part of this team and get adoration of the Holy Eucharist started at St. John's. Adorers will find their efforts will bring many graces to this parish and the larger community.
My family moved to New Brighton in August 2002. Previously we lived in a small town in Wisconsin. I helped start Perpetual Adoration in our Wisconsin parish. I found the prayerful experience of an adorer to be transforming and fulfilling.
As Catholics, we believe Jesus Christ is present in the Holy Eucharist. We witness this wonderful sacrament in the sacrifice of the Mass. Now we can also experience this during Adoration. Jesus accepts us and loves us unconditionally, he asks nothing of us except to spend time with him.
Perpetual Adoration is a place you can give all your joys, sorrows, and burdens to Jesus. A place to say, "Thank you." A place to say, "I'm sorry." Adoration is a time to say various prayers in your own words to ask God to bless and heal our families and one another. You need not speak out loud in his presence. Jesus wants to enter our hearts, to provide for our needs, to ask God for help on our behalf. The Messiah is waiting and watching for us.
Taking one hour out of a week to spend in adoration has changed my life. I hope and pray each one of you will consider taking one hour to spend time with the Lord. One hour away from the noise, chatter, and our busy lives. Let Jesus bring peace in to your life. Perpetual Adoration will begin in our small chapel, the Cenacle, late February or early March.
