MUSIC AND THE LENTEN MASSES In the spirit of Lenten renewal, we will fast somewhat from our usual musical support from the organ/piano and other instruments. This can be a great experience to hear others singing more clearly and puts more responsibility on congregational participation. No matter how well you sing, there is no better place to give your voice back to God than through worship. After Lent, our Alleluia's should be that much brighter and stronger at Easter!
Adoration& ADORATION COMMITTEE MEETING St. John's Adoration Committee will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, in the St. Clare Conference Room. All members are encouraged to attend this important meeting to finalize plans for sign-up Sunday. Guests are welcome.
'O COME LET US ADORE... ' On the weekend of February 23/24, 2002, the Reverend Victor P. Warkulwiz, M.S.S. of the Apostolate for Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration will be our homilist at all Masses. He will invite us and encourage us to spend time with Our Lord in Perpetual Adoration. Father Warkulwiz will also help organize teams of volunteers to coordinate those who offer to adore and pray for one hour with Our Lord. Will you COME and watch one hour with Jesus? We will SEE benefits from 24-hour prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
St. Vincent De Paul&
As we did at Christmas time and last year at Lent, once again, this year during Lent we will be collecting socks for the homeless. Also, the workers at the shelter have told us that underwear is badly needed. Boxer shorts and t-shirts in all sizes are welcome. Can you help? Drop boxes are at the entrances to church...and they asked him, "when were you naked Lord and we clothed you?" Sponsored by St. Vincent De Paul.
Bulletin Board& BOY SCOUT TROOP 93 NEWS...
Saint John the Baptist sponsors us. Our troop operates with Scoutmaster Charlie Goebel, Senior Patrol Leader Justin Lee, and the Flaming Arrow, and Panther Patrols. Some of the things we have been involved with this winter... Two boys were presented new ranks at the January Court of Honor: Dan Spiess - 2nd class and Chris Kerzman - Life Scout. 18 merit badges were also presented to the boys that earned them. We had a guest speaker talk to us about hiking on the Superior Trail. Our Troop participated in SnowBase this year. Four older scouts spent 24 hours outside when they backpacked to a campsite on snowshoes, built up a Quinzhee (snow-hut), slept in it, and hiked back out. A younger group of six scouts took part in the Snow Huskies program enjoying the outdoors at Tomahawk Scout Reservation.
Now we are busy preparing for our Pancake Breakfast this weekend... Hope to see you there!
