Connections& May 5, 2002--Sixth Sunday of Easter
"The Father will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him.
"Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them." John 14:15-21 Applied psychology As a college student rang the doorbell and delivered the pizza, the man who answered growled, "What's the usual tip?" "Well, sir," the student replied, "this is my first delivery, but the other guys said that if I got a quarter out of you, I'd be doing great." "That so?" grunted the man. "Well, in that case, here's five bucks." "Thank you, sir," the grateful student said, taking the bill. "This will be a big help at school." "By the way, what are you studying?" "Applied psychology."
CONNECTION: The Spirit that Christ promises his new church opens our minds to see the truth in its totality, to understand how facts and data connect to reveal reality and truth. Such truths can be very difficult to face and accept--obfuscation, rationalization and denial are much more comforting than confronting the truth about our lives, our values and our dreams and our need for resurrection. Christ's gift of the Spirit calls us to seek out the good that is buried beyond our sight, to hear the cries of the poor and needy amid the noisy marketplace, to enable the grace of God to transform darkness into light, despair into hope, death into life. u
