Ruminations of a White Haired Old Deacon&

A little over  three years ago, I wrote in this same church bulletin a little about who I was and what I hoped to accomplish in New Brighton and St. John's Parish around issues of Gospel teaching regarding Social Justice.  With a few exceptions, I have to admit my feeling is that I have had little success in the area of Social Justice awareness or action here.  In the past year or so, my energy level and passion has not been the same as when I first came to St. John's.  This has been the result, in part, of some health setbacks and also from the frustration of being   unable to accomplish what I set out to do. I will turn 65 in a few days.  I have chosen to "retire" from active ministry, at least for a while. I will take the next three months off and separate myself from formal Church   ministry.  After Christmas, my wife, Sue and I head south for a couple of months or so.  When I return to New Brighton next spring, I will listen carefully to  where the Holy Spirit may be leading me.

I want you to know that I have felt very welcome and supported by most people in my ministry here.  I've always said that I have never known a parish where the people of the parish have not been delightful, supportive and a joy to be around.  St John's has certainly validated that experience.  Thank you to all for your support, encouragement, and affirmations given to me.  Thank you also to all those who have allowed me to be a special part of important passages in your lives, i.e. Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals.  The people of St. John's will  always hold a special place in my heart.  I will pray for you, please pray for me.
