FATHER TIM VAKOC suffered a brain injury and other wounds in a roadside bombing in Iraq. A fundraiser is planned for Monday, October 25, to help pay for rehabilitative care. DO YOU NEED A WARM COAT?  St. John's St. Vincent de Paul Society, along with area churches in the Social Concerns Network, is collecting CLEAN, usable winter coats, scarves, mittens, and NEW HATS to be distributed to those in need on Saturday, October 30, at the New Brighton Family Service Center. Please leave your donations outside St. John's Coat Room by the Food Shelf Bin in St. Paul Plaza. Over 2,500 coats have been donated in the past five years! Call Carole for details at (651) 639-9103. 18TH ANNUAL WRAP CAMPAIGN: White Ribbon Against Pornography Week is October 31 - November 7. The Archdiocese supports the national effort of fostering morality in the media, and everyone is encouraged to wear a white ribbon signifying concern about pornography and violence. The goal is to raise awareness of the damage done to our families and society by the proliferation of pornography. Please call (651) 291-4488 for more information.

REMEMBER: Sign up the weekend of November 6/7 to volunteer with hosting our guests from Families Moving Forward. They are coming on Sunday, November 28, and they will be here until Sunday morning, December 5.

WANTED: Birthright volunteers for the Coon Rapids and St. Paul offices. "A volunteer opportunity with no pay, but great benefits!" You are needed for two hours, only 1 - 2 times per month, to help parents make alternative choices to abortion. Growing Through Loss   

SERIES CONTINUES Tuesday, October 26, with "The Grieving Family." Speaker is Janice Winchester Nadeau, licensed psychologist and marriage & family therapist. She will talk about family systems and what the loss of a member means to the whole family. She will identify ways to come through grief as a healthy family. The program is from 6:45 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 171 Elm Street, Lino Lakes. Small support groups follow the speaker, and registration is taken at each session.
