RE: MY ABSENCE FROM ST. JOHN'S FOR THREE WEEKS
For the next three weeks, I will be away from St. John's. Why? I want to be honest with you. I am concerned about my use of alcohol.
I will be going to Guesthouse, a residence for priests and brothers who are dealing with alcoholism. My three weeks will be a time of evaluation... Am I addicted to alcohol or do I misuse it? Do I need help?
I feel at peace with my decision to go away and ask for help before I hurt others or myself. Maybe it's not the "best" time to go; Fr. Tom's in India till early October.

But, you are the parish community, and you'll survive with each other... praying together, doing ministry... and the parish staff will be here to help you. The Archdiocese will try to find priests for Sunday liturgies.
Honesty is the best policy. I am going away trusting in the healing power of Jesus and your prayers.
If you hear gossip about me, just tell the people the truth... Fr. Bill has gone away for help and healing. Thank you!
