THANK YOU... The legislative session has come to a conclusion and St. John's parishioners have impacted this session in very significant ways. Our healthcare action team, working with the Office for Social Justice, led us in the effort to bring over 1,000 postcards to politicians in St. Paul asking MinnesotaCare to remain available to people who have no other healthcare options. IT IS INTACT! Parishioners worked with ISAIAH  for funding for education, and they held vigil at the Capitol to pray for just solutions. Education received increases for the next couple of years which will impact our schools, teachers, and most importantly, our children. ISAIAH and the Office for Social Justice, jointly with other churches in our community, held a town hall meeting with Char Samuelson to address these issues. Our nursing home ministry had an opportunity to write on behalf of funding for nursing homes, and staff at these facilities will receive a pay increase after several years without one. It is important to know that these decisions were made because many of you took the time to make your voice heard and to stand together with many others in our state to look out for one another. This work and these outcomes are strong indicators of what our collective voices can accomplishment.  This is work that changes "SYSTEMS" and ultimately affects some of us right here in our own church community.  This is a vibrant response to the Social Mission of the Church. I hope that you feel proud of your part in this, and I hope that you will be compelled to continue to pay attention, respond, and speak out on issues of justice.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

This is what the Lord asks of you, only this: to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God.
