LADY OF GRACE: Liam Doyle came into the world with an incomplete heart; he was born without one of four chambers needed to pump blood through his body. When Liam underwent open-heart surgery to rebuild his heart, his dad wrote about an occasion of grace in Leaping: Revelations & Epiphanies: "When a doctor carried him down the hall, his face grinning at me as it receded toward possible death, I went somewhere dark. Yet out of the darkness came my wife's hand, and I believe, to this hour, that when she touched me, I received pure grace. She woke me, saved me, not for the first time, not for the last.
CONNECTION: God has given us one another to create a safe, welcoming place called family which is the harbor that we can always go to when storms batter our lives. Just as Jesus catches Peter when he falls and promises to always be with Peter and His Church, may we be ready to reach out to catch one another when we are sinking, offering the compassion and grace of God in the midst of life's most treacherous and terrifying storms.
