THE BLIND DATE
A guy sets up his buddy, Mark, on a blind date with a friend of a friend.  "What do I do if she's really ugly?" Mark protests. "I'll have to be stuck with her all evening." "No problem," his friend reassures him. "All you have to do is go to her door and meet her. If you like what you see, terrific. If you don't, just double over and moan, "Aaaaauuuggghhh!" and pretend you're having an asthma attack. Then you can gracefully get out of the date without hurting her feelings." Seems reasonable, so Mark arrives at his date's apartment and rings the bell. When the young woman opens the door, Mark is awestruck by her beauty and grace. Mark is about to introduce himself and tell her how pleased he is to meet her when she suddenly doubles over and moans, "Aaaaauuuggghhh!"

CONNECTION: Jesus' parable of the unforgiving debtor calls the "Mark" in all of us to a change of perspective and an openness of heart: to realize our own shortcomings and failures before judging and condemning others; to remember that we are all debtors before God in need of His healing and forgiveness. Christ calls those who would be His disciples to be ready to forgive one another as God would forgive us; to seek out and lift up others as God seeks out and lifts us up; to return to our brothers and sisters the compassion and generosity that He gives totally and unconditionally to us in the person of Jesus.
