FREE FAMILY ADVENT BOOKS

Advent calls us to be vigilant, expecting Christ to come into our lives at every minute. We are to abound in love for each other, and we are to stand erect and pray without fear for the coming of the end of time when Jesus will bring perfect justice and peace. Christians in the first centuries of the Church prayed the acclamation, "Come, Lord Jesus!" This season invites us to enter into the spirit of hopeful expectation for the "advent" of Christ's reign.

The Faith Formation staff has some ways to help you focus on the path to Christmas, avoiding the commercialism that society puts in front of us:

  • "A Circle of Love" is a booklet for families with Scripture readings and activities. Supper is a good time for the family to work together on these booklets.
  • "The Magnificat Advent Companion" is a book for adults with a reflection for each day.
These materials are on the Harvest Table in St. Paul Plaza. Sometimes, we are able to get publishers to give copies of books for Advent reading. Take a look each week for possible new items, too.

During Advent, we remember Jesus' first coming in time, we anticipate Christ's coming at the end of time, and we pray with hopeful expectation for our lives right now: "Come, Lord Jesus, come!" May the journey to Christmas be a blessed one for you.
