Pastoral Ministry News

  • If you have interest in Befriender Ministry, call Judy or Anne Marie and we will give you the information.  Training will begin in late fall; dates determined by the groups to be trained: (651) 633-8333.
  • Nursing Home Ministry needs someone to help at  Mass at New Brighton Care Center on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 2:15 p.m. We also need help with the Communion Service on the 3rd Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. Call Anne Marie, (651) 633-8333, ext. 1237.

Social Mission News

  • SJB FOODSHELF: M-W-F, 10-12, St. Joseph Hall.
  • PEACE COFFEE: Look for the Peace Coffee table in front of St. Joseph Hall this weekend. Thank you for your support of the farmers who grow this coffee.
  • Thursday, August 24, the Social Mission Advisory Board will meet at 7:00 p.m. in Room 204.
  • On Monday, August 28, there is a Health Care Action Team meeting at the Office for Social Justice. Anyone interested in assuring healthcare for all should come.  Folks from many parishes meet to discuss ways to impact the legislative decisions that will be made around healthcare in this election year. Last year at St. John's, a very successful post card campaign helped keep MinnesotaCare for 30,000 people who might have otherwise lost their healthcare. This is good work, and many are needed to represent decision making around the common good. If you are interested, we carpool from St. John's. Call Anne Marie, (651) 633-8333, ext. 1237.
  • Watch for upcoming information on a big event at St. John's on Sunday, October 15. ISAIAH is working with surrounding communities to bring state and local government representatives to spend time with us and talk about important decisions that will be getting made. Faith communities play an important role in presenting guiding principles around big issues that affect the common good, and we want to be well represented. Mark your calendars now...
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

"Don't keep the faith,
spread it!"

THE U.S. CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS is asking all parishes to take up a second collection next weekend,  August 26/27, for the Church's help in the continued recovery efforts to help the victims of last year's deadly hurricanes, Katrina & Rita. Please be generous!

SERVERS, EUCHARIST MINISTERS, AND READERS: Changes for October, November, and December are due Sunday, August 27. Please update the Change Book if you are no longer able to continue in your current ministry. Make changes and/or dates off in the Change Book at the Welcome Desk for Eucharistic Ministers and at the Upper Sacristy for Servers and Readers. Please do not include Christmas or New Year's Weekends. Signup sheets will be available later. Thank you.
