WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND!

Last weekend's Fallfest & Booya was truly a wonderful celebration, as parishioners and guests enjoyed St. John's 75th Anniversary of Booya. The weather cooperated and kept us dry for the most part. Many, many people enjoyed the Booya, the street dance, the "icon singing" competition, the music, our new History Center, food, games, and interesting exhibits. People were kind and even said they enjoyed my accordion playing! Most of all, it is truly a community builder when parishioners come together to give of their time and talent to create an enjoyable experience for our guests and ourselves. Thank you to all the chair people, the many volunteers, St. John's staff members who worked extra hours, those who donated prizes and money, and all who came to the Fallfest.

ST. JOHN'S IS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO BE.

We welcome this weekend Fr. Paul Wilderotter and Gene Huszcza who will speak at all Masses about our sister parish, the African Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Church in Bull Bay, Jamaica.  We will hear about how we can develop a reciprocal relationship between our two parishes. Solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world is one of the principles of Catholic social teaching.

We will hear about concrete ways that we can develop this solidarity with our fellow Christians in
Jamaica.

Please prayerfully
consider how you might participate in this effort.

Wednesday of this week, September 27, is the Memorial of St. Vincent de Paul, known as the "Apostle of Charity" and "Father of the Poor." St. Vincent, a French priest who lived in the 17th century, was a man of deep faith, keen intellect, and enormous creativity. He worked to establish seminaries for the training of priests, and organized parish missions and other services for the poor.  We are grateful to our own parish's St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the many other groups that reach out in various ways to serve the poor. Check out the "Social Mission" link on our parish website to see the many ways you can be involved in the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
I will be leaving this Tuesday, September 26, for a 10-day pilgrimage to the shrines of France. Along with 21 other pilgrims, we will visit the shrines of Lourdes, the Miraculous Medal, Chartres, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, St. Bernadette, St. Vincent de Paul, the Sacred Heart, St. John Vianney (the Curé of Ars), and others. I will remember all St. John's parishioners in my daily Masses at the various shrines.  In particular, I will pray for all the sick members of our parish at the shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes. I will pray for conversion to a deeper faith for all our parishioners and their families. Please keep us in your prayers during these days as well.

PLEASE PRAY FOR...
