Social Mission News

JUSTFAITH helps us better understand Scripture which repeatedly calls us to care for the widows, the orphans, and the strangers. Who are these people in our world today? What do I know about them? What does my faith say about my relationship with them? JustFaith helps answer these questions with reflection, study, prayer, and community.  To learn more,  please visit our information table in St. Paul Plaza after Mass the weekend of September 8/9. Or, contact the following: Marilyn DeMarais at marilyn.demarais@gmail.com or (651) 636-5228; and Ann Riley at amriley@comcast.net or (651) 628-9592.

FAMILIES MOVING FORWARD guests will be coming  the week of October 7. Mark your calendars now and sign up by calling Mary Gormley at (651) 783-9354 or Marilyn DeMarais at (651) 636-5228. Your support is appreciated, and lots of volunteer help is needed. Sign up after Masses will be on the weekend of September 8/9.

Growing Through Loss

The fall Growing Through Loss series is on Thursdays, September 13 through October 18, at Nativity Lutheran Church, 3312 Silver Lake Road in St. Anthony. Growing Through Loss might be a place for you to find what you are seeking as you struggle with the losses in your life.

Registration is taken at each session. You may attend any one or all of the programs, and donations are welcome.  Childcare is available free of charge. The evening begins with registration from 6:45 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. A speaker on a grief or loss-related topic talks from 7:00 p.m. - 7:45 p.m., and small groups follow from 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.  Groups are formed based on types of loss, such as loss of spouse, child, parent, friend, sibling, divorce, suicide survivor, and transitional loss (such as moving, job loss, and financial setbacks). These are peer support groups with a facilitator, and confidentiality is stressed. The North Suburban Grief Support Coalition, of which St. John's is a member, sponsors the series. Call Sue Amos Palmer for more information, (651) 633-8333, ext. 1298.
