Can I receive the Eucharist?
The Eucharist is the Body and Blood of our Lord and it is a sign of our union with the pope and all bishops; therefore, we ask that people who approach the Sacrament do so with the proper disposition. For Catholics this means observing an hour fast from food or drink prior to receiving the Eucharist (with the exception of medical reasons), not being conscious of mortal sin, and having reached the age of reason (see First Communion). Out of respect for the differences between the Catholic faith and other Christian or non-Christian faiths, we ask those who do not share our Catholic faith to refrain from receiving the Eucharist. All people who are not going to receive the Eucharist can still come forward in the communion line and cross their arms over their chest to receive a blessing. |
